May 24th Cowboy Shack Club Observation Event
We are planning on having a club observing event on May 24th (Saturday), at the Galisteo Basin Preserve Cowboy Shack, starting at sundown (which is about 8pm).
This is an informal night-sky observing event. All are welcome to bring their scope or binoculars (or just your own two eyes) and enjoy a spring evening under the stars.
If you have not been to the Cowboy Shack before, here is a Google Map link to the location: Cowboy Shack
A weather call shall be made by the afternoon of the 24th and it will go out via email as either a reminder, or as weather cancellation note.
We expect several of the folks from the Galisteo Basin Preserve Board to be attending that night, so let us know if you can commit to being there with a scope. Our goal is to have 3-4 scopes available, at a minimum. The Preserve is very generous in letting us meet on their property, and so I want to make sure we welcome them to our informal gatherings.
From Jim Eagle:
Below is a homemade, binocular finder chart for the recurrent nova T Coronae Borealis (aka T CrB or the Blaze Star). Magnitudes for the nearby stars are shown. You can use it to star-hop from the 4th magnitude Epsilon CrB to the currently 10th magnitude T CrB. Yes, we are still waiting for T CrB to do something spectacular (S&T article). If history repeats, it could reach 2nd mag. when it finally explodes.
