SUMMARY:SF Stargazers - Special Beginners Meeting
DESCRIPTION:At our monthly meeting for May\, the Santa Fe Stargazers (SFSG) will focus on helping beginners to amateur astronomy. \nAlthough we would prefer in-person attendance\, especially by our newcomers to amateur astronomy\, the option is available to participate on-line with Zoom.\nPlease join us! The public\, including families\, is warmly invited to attend our Special Beginners Meeting. \nParticularly if you want to participate on-line\, please sign up with the Santa Fe Stargazers at our website: SFS Website.  Members will receive an email with instructions on how to attend the meeting via Zoom. \nRemember: Both SFSG membership and our Special Beginners Meeting are free of charge. \nWe believe there are only two kinds of amateur astronomers: beginners\, and those who used to be beginners. Both should find this special meeting fun and rewarding. \nFor further information\, please contact the SFSG via email at: events@santafestargazers.org.

SUMMARY:Astronomy Day - Fall 2024 (Cancelled)
DESCRIPTION:Free the date…\nThe Fall Astronomy Day Event has been Cancelled\nOctober 5\, 2024\n  \nUnfortunately\, due major technical difficulties at the venue\, the Astronomy Day 2024 community outreach event must be cancelled. \nDetails on future activities will be forthcoming\, so be sure to check back on this page\, or sign-up for the announcements email list. \nWhat is Astronomy Day?\nAstronomy Day was born in California in 1973. Doug Berger\, then president of the Astronomical Association of Northern California\, decided that rather than try to entice people to travel long distances to visit observatory open houses\, they would set up telescopes closer to where the people were – busy locations – urban locations like street corners\, shopping malls\, parks\, etc. Today\, Astronomy Day events take place at hundreds of sites across the United States.  Internationally England\, Canada\, New Zealand\, Finland\, Sweden\, the Philippines\, Argentina\, Malaysia\, Iran\, Ireland\, New Guinea plus many other countries have hosted Astronomy Day activities.  Each location plans and executes events that work best for their local area. \nFurther reading: Astronomy Day Fact Sheet – Astronomical League (astroleague.org)  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Astrophotography Special Interest Group Launch
DESCRIPTION:Santa Fe Stargazers Astrophotography SIG Launch Meeting\nThe first meeting of the AP-SIG will be Wednesday\, April 9th at 7PM to 9PM.  The in-person meeting will be in the Railroad Building* at the Eldorado Community Center (ECIA).  See below for a link to the online (Zoom) version. \nSince there will be a lot of “firsts” involved\, I can’t guarantee much of anything.  I have used the ECIA facility access system before\, so have at least some confidence that we’ll be able to get inside.  But any number of things could go wrong with the Zoom meeting.  Please be patient. \nI look forward to seeing you there. \nClear Skies\,\nGreg Marshall \n* The yellow building between the main building that houses the ECIA offices and the maintenance building. \nZoom Link: Look for it in our email announcement sent on April 8\, 5PM.

SUMMARY:Night Sky At Pecos NHP
DESCRIPTION:Pecos National Historical Park is setting their next public night sky event for the evening of Saturday\, April 26\, 2025.\nThe second of our back-to-back outreach events this April is at Pecos National Historical Park on Saturday\, April 26. \nIt’s a new moon weekend and spring is finally here\, so it’s looking good.  Pecos NHP has been a partner since our club began\, and they’re always glad for us to help.  \nTime:  7:00 p.m. arrive to set up; 7:30 gates open to visitors.  Sunset is 7:46 and there will be a ranger talk during twilight.  We’ll be able to show bright objects (Jupiter\, binary stars\, etc.) starting around 8:30\, and astro. twilight is over by 9:18. The event will end at 10:30\, giving us a good amount of time for deep-sky objects.  \nParking:  As usual\, we can drive to the observing field behind the Headquarters building to unload\, then park near Headquarters.  If you have to leave early\, it’s best if you can avoid driving through the observing area before the 10:30 finish time.  \nIf you expect to be participating and bringing some equipment\, please let Albert know so he can give the Park a rough headcount.  Final details\, including weather cancellation protocol\, will be communicated during the week of the event.  \nClear skies — \nAlbert Shultz \nPark info at: Night Sky Event At Pecos NHP

SUMMARY:May 2025 Group Observing Night
DESCRIPTION:May 24th Cowboy Shack Club Observation Event\nWe are planning on having a club observing event on May 24th (Saturday)\, at the Galisteo Basin Preserve Cowboy Shack\, starting at sundown (which is about 8pm). \nThis is an informal night-sky observing event. All are welcome to bring their scope or binoculars (or just your own two eyes) and enjoy a spring evening under the stars. \nIf you have not been to the Cowboy Shack before\, here is a Google Map link to the location: Cowboy Shack \nA weather call shall be made by the afternoon of the 24th and it will go out via email as either a reminder\, or as weather cancellation note. \nWe expect several of the folks from the Galisteo Basin Preserve Board to be attending that night\, so let us know if you can commit to being there with a scope. Our goal is to have 3-4 scopes available\, at a minimum. The Preserve is very generous in letting us meet on their property\, and so I want to make sure we welcome them to our informal gatherings. \nFrom Jim Eagle: \nBelow is a homemade\, binocular finder chart for the recurrent nova T Coronae Borealis (aka T CrB or the Blaze Star). Magnitudes for the nearby stars are shown. You can use it to star-hop from the 4th magnitude Epsilon CrB to the currently 10th magnitude T CrB. Yes\, we are still waiting for T CrB to do something spectacular (S&T article). If history repeats\, it could reach 2nd mag. when it finally explodes.
